When the first units of the BMW E82 1 Series coupe hit the streets, the opinions about it were split up: one group really liked it, the other, well, hated it. And this sparked a lot of debates that have raged on throughout the years. However, even though its looks and design cues were a debatable item, it’s handling prowess and overall performance made everyone praise it as a proper BMW to the core. Nevertheless, even though it was scrutinized beyond belief in every area, in the end, after enough time passed by, everyone somehow started to low the little guy that could. Some even went so far ahead as to labelled the 6-Speed manual-equipped BMW 135i as one of the best driver’s cars out there.
Consequently, that brought along a lot of affection towards the 1 Series, especially among the younger group of drivers. Furthermore, most first-generation 1 Series owners were teenagers when these cars came out. And that means that a lot of them started eying them – once they became more affordable. And what better high-performance machine to go with, than a BMW 135i like this.
Naturally, with more younger owners picking this car, the tuning industry took notice. And that’s when good things started to happen. And this Alpine White BMW 135i build is a clear test to that. Naturally, once BMW revealed the 2 Series, many turned to their Coupe needs within this product range, but the good old BMW E82 still kept its appeal.
Powered by the familiar BMW N55 turbocharged engine, this thing is a pleasure to drive. The twin-scroll turbocharged inline-six engine delivers a whopping 300 horsepower and 300lb-ft of torque, allowing the 135i to sprint from 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in under 5.0 seconds. Its top speed is electronically limited to 155mph (250km/h). In turn, this makes this nimble little hatchback a force to be reckoned with.
This particular Alpine White BMW 135i comes from California and can be considered as one of the cleanest 1 Series Coupe’s out there. Sporting a few aftermarket design touches, it looks modern & rather appealing. The owner replaced the somewhat outdated taillights with an aftermarket LED solution, pushing the back end of this vehicle into the modern age. While the rest of the vehicle – except the carbon fibre trunk lid – didn’t see a lot of changes, it’s the Copper Plated CCW Classic wheels and the air ride that make it stand out.
While the color combinations seen with this BMW 135i, may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it still is one of the cleanest 1 Series’ we’ve seen to date.
