The Porsche 911 GT3 is one of the best driver’s cars money could ever buy. When the Porsche 997 GT3 was released, even the most cautious pundits declared it a success. It’s handling prowess, matched with the impressive 3.8 litre engine producing 435 horsepower, provided an impressive driver’s machine. The 997 GT3 was a product of Porsche Motorsport, and it was the ‘entry level’ model in a four-model line-up that includes the GT3 RS and two race cars; the GT3 Cup and GT3 RSR. While a bit slower than the much powerful 997 Turbo, the GT3 of this generation could clearly haul ass with the best of them. The vehicle was capable of accelerating from 0-62mph (0-100km/h) in just 4.3 seconds.
Upon release, the vehicle featured a number of new options including dynamic engine mounts, a pneumatically lifting front axle to compensate for the low ground clearance – working perfectly with a set of aftermarket wheels – and a bit more streamlined bodywork, giving it a more aggressive outlook. The rear spoiler was also modified along with other parts of the bodywork. A total of just 65 units were sold in the United States and 58 units in Canada.
