The Corvette C5 Z06 was envisioned as a successor to the much-famed ZR1. Making its debut in 2001, the vehicle gave a nod to the high-performance Z06 version of the C2 Corvette of the 1960s. Unlike the ZR1 – which featured the heavy, double-overhead-cam engine – the C5 Z06 went with a tuned version of the standard LS1 engine. Dubbed the LS6, the engine produced a higher power output of 385 horsepower. While that was less than the previous model ZR1, the Z06 weighed much less and could easily outperform the ZR1 in almost every imaginable category – except top speed.
The C5 Z06 had a total curb weight of just 3,118 lb (1,414 kg). This was achieved due to weight-saving measures such as a titanium exhaust, thinner glass, lighter wheels, non-EMT tires, reduced soundproofing, fixed rear radio aerial, and a lighter battery. It all meant the Z06 was a much better handling car and could deliver top-notch performance, even with a less powerful engine under the hood.
The vehicle also cost substantially less than the ZR1, thanks mostly to newer production methods and newer, easier to produce materials.
For this particular Velocity Yellow Corvette C5 Z06, the owner achieved total perfection. Thanks to a few carefully chosen mods, the Z06 looks impeccable & aggressive at the same time and we can say its one of the nicest tastefully modded C5’s out there.
