We can definitely name the BMW E92 M3 as one of the most successful M3 generations thus far. It’s one of the best cars, both engineering and design-wise, that the Bavarian carmaker ever built. While it’s naturally aspirated 4.0 liter V8 engine may be a bit thirsty and the eco-friendly people may not like it, this is probably the best sounding M3 of all time. And yes, the fun levels afforded by V8 powerplant offset any disbelief with the gas bill.
As mentioned earlier, this generation of the BMW M3 is powered by the BMW S65 V8 naturally aspirated engine. It produces 414 bhp (309 kW; 420 PS) at 8300 rpm, with peak torque of 295 lb·ft (400 N·m) attained at 3900 rpm. The M3 is connected to a standard six-speed manual transmission, allowing it to do a highly touted sprint 0-60mph (0-100km/h) in 4.6 seconds. In turn, this makes it one incredibly fast performance car that is a joy to drive.
Back in early 2008, the carmaker sought to give their BMW M3 customers a transmission upgrade. From that time, the E92 M3 was offered with the brand new seven-speed Getrag double-clutch gearbox, named by the ///M division as the M-DKG (Doppel-Kupplungs-Getriebe) or M-DCT (Double Clutch Transmission). This transmission system came as an option. The new option reduced shift timing to less than a tenth of a second, resulting in a shortened 62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint time by 0.2 seconds. It features both automatic and manual modes similar to the SMG gearboxes in the E36 and E46, but with more speed and efficiency.
Well, all of that makes the BMW E92 M3 a pretty damn good foundation for a track car, just as the owner of this M3 thought.
This particular Silverstone Metallic II BMW E92 M3 is equipped with a set of CCW C10 monoblock forged wheels, fully tested for racing usage. For this BMW M3, the wheels are machined in sizes of 19×9.5 in the front and 19×10.5 in the rear. Furthermore, these CCW C10 wheels feature our classic Gunmetal Matte finish, perfect for the race track. In addition to the wheels, you’ll notice the sticky track tires and the large brakes that help stop this car in tight cornering situations.
